David J. Delaurant says:

What Steiner’s warranty meant to me I bought two of the older Steiner Champ binoculars and was well-satisfied with them, right until the center focus on one malfunctioned. Sent it to the Steiner Service Center (along with a check for the service charge), and after a wait of several weeks I was informed that my model could no longer be serviced or replaced. They could have told me this up front.

Solid Performance at a Reasonable Price I bought these compact binocs for my wife’s occasional use. At this price point, you don’t expect anything fancy… and they’re not. But they live up to Steiner’s reputation for decent optics. The “Champ” is light, compact and easily packable. They’re remarkably bright and sharp. And the close-focus feature works well. I can sit on my couch and focus on the television across the room. They feel very sturdy, too. The fit and finish looks up to typically high German standards. The eye cups are very comfortable. Neither my wife nor I had any problems with the fit to our face. They adjust quickly and easily. The diopter adjustment is a nice touch, too. We’ve only used them a little at this point, but we’re very pleased – even with the low-light performance, which is very good. These are easily the best under-$100 binocs I’ve troed.
